Drew BamfordCorporate Vice President, HTC Creative Labs

Drew Bamford builds products and experiences at the intersection of human desires and bleeding edge technologies. Drew leads HTC Creative Labs, a cross-functional team of researchers, designers and engineers with offices in Seattle, San Francisco and Taipei. When he started the experience design team at HTC in 2006, Drew helped drive the transformation of HTC from ODM to global consumer brand by creating a branded user experience for HTC products with TouchFLO on Windows Mobile and then HTC Sense on Android. Today, Drew and his team are again transforming HTC’s business by design, by creating the VR experiences that will power HTC´s VIVEPORT content platform in the future.
Before joining HTC, Drew founded the user experience design practice at TEAGUE, a product design consultancy in Seattle, where he and his team designed interactive products for such varied clients as Microsoft, Panasonic, Palm, Nike, Starbucks, and Boeing. At Microsoft´s Hardware Design Group, Drew led the hardware/software interaction design for a wide range of consumer products, from children´s toys and game devices to wireless telephones. Drew´s earlier experience includes pioneering intranet design work at IDEO and user interface design for an early tablet device at Silicon Graphics. At Stanford, Drew studied Product Design and Human-Computer Interaction design in the heart of Silicon Valley.
Drew also serves on the board at the Tacoma Art Museum and is a member of the community advisory board at the Institute for Global Engagement, University of Washington Tacoma.


Anind DeyDirector, Carnegie Mellon University


Anind K. Dey is the Charles M. Geschke Professor, and Director of the Human-Computer Interaction Institute at Carnegie Mellon University. He is the Principal Investigator for the Google-funded open Internet of Things project at CMU. He leads the Ubicomp Lab, which performs research at the intersection of ubiquitous computing, human-computer interaction and machine learning, in the areas of the Internet of Things, mobile computing, health and sustainability among others. He has authored over 200 papers on these topics, serves on the editorial board of several journals, and is a member of the prestigious CHI Academy. Anind received his PhD in computer science from Georgia Tech, along with a Masters of Science in both Computer Science and Aerospace Engineering. He received his Bachelors of Applied Science in Computer Engineering from Simon Fraser University.

Steve Portigal helps companies to think and act strategically when innovating with user insights and to unlock their team´s research super powers  He is principal of Portigal Consulting, author of Interviewing Users: How To Uncover Compelling Insights and host of the Dollars to Donuts podcast. He makes his home in the San Francisco Bay Area where there´s always a new ramen restaurant to check out.
